Description

Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus. The vivid crimson crest are collected and dried for use mainly as a flavor and coloring ingredient in food. Saffron is cultivated chiefly in Iran but is also grown in Spain, France, Italy and parts of India. It is believed that saffron originated in Iran. Saffron has a strong, exotic aroma and a bitter taste and is used to color and flavor many Mediterranean and Asian dishes, particularly rice, fish and soup.
